Dear IF readers,
International Family Magazine looks at the health of family life. The health and well being of family includes spiritual, physical, and mental. It is the great balancing act of self and community. As each individual works for or against their own health needs, the family as a whole can either benefit or not.
As an educator-in-training, I had a wonderful teacher in my Masters in Education at Touro College, David Smith. He spoke about a community being like a wheel with many spokes. When all the spokes were fitted correctly, the wheel worked well. And if one of the spokes splintered off, the wheel was broken. I like this example for family life as well.
IF mag brings you stories from our wonderful contributors that touch on all areas of health: religious, psychological, and physical. We have a mother that asks the very large question of how religion and her family thrive together or fail. Another article asks questions of the mental health organizations around the world and whether or not the rights of a patient, the family and the larger community as a whole can all be protected equally, fairly and simultaneously.
This month of May at International Family Magazine we review a book, “You Can Heal Your Child” that advocates against misdiagnosis and true progress for the child and family as a whole. We also review a website, www.onehealthygirl.com that helps people keep their physical bodies strong and whole. Each part of healthy living, the mind, the heart and the body are critical spokes on the wheel of family life. And each family member is another spoke. All spokes work together to turn the wheel and keep things moving forward. A splintered spoke breaks the wheel.
I hope this May issue of International Family Magazine allows you pause to consider the health of yourself and your family. I like very much the article, “Communication and Love” by Meredith Browning. Sometimes what makes things in a family unhealthy is silence and isolation. Talking to one another to get information to work towards a solution is a large part of the remedy. If there is a problem in your family, start today: Talk. Talk. Talk. Talk.

Good reading,
Cat Wayland
